SERVICES & SPECIAL INTERESTS

The latest advances in prosthetic technology have allowed amputees to participate competitively and confidently in an extensive range of sporting activities. There are many options to choose from, whether you’re on a track or uneven outdoor terrain.

Limb loss produces a permanent disability that can impact a patient's self-image, self-care, and mobility (movement). Rehabilitation of the patient with an amputation begins after surgery during the acute treatment phase. A more extensive rehabilitation program is often started as the patient's condition improves.
The rehabilitation program is designed to meet the needs of the individual patient. Active involvement of the patient and family is vital to the of the program’s success.
The goal of rehabilitation after an amputation is to help the patient return to the highest level of function and independence possible while improving the overall quality of life — physically, emotionally, and socially.

When discussing prosthetics and artificial limbs, it's important to note the differences between the various types and their specific uses. There are usually four main types to consider: transradial, transfemoral, transtibial, and transhumeral. However, other prosthetics can be used in certain conditions.

Orthotics is the medical field concerned with the application and manufacture of devices that support or correct a limb’s function or the torso.
